I kill live animals all the time, yet I have no want to kill babies. Just a couple weeks ago, I stuffed a couple hundred living creatures into a big pot of boiling water and heard them scream while I was drooling to eat them.

For food is a little different than sport, sport is just for the fun of it. I am fine with both. A cat or dog for that matter is just another animal to me and holds no special value because it's been domesticated. Killing one isn't deserving of the death penalty, just as killing a dear by bow/arrow (which has to be a slow painful death) you don't intend to eat isn't deserving of that penalty either.
