There are two guys with less seniority than me in our group. They would go first (union shop, and all of that). I wouldn't mind seeing the least senior made reduntant. It would actually be a benefit, as he's a waste of protoplasm. Losing the other guy would be a big hit to us. He's a work-horse.

This week all the contractors here took 5% pay cut and for the direct employees, there will be no merit increases this year. If they started laying off, I'd wait it out. This place in the only game in town that does what I do, so if they lay off, I'd need to move.

not sure 4 years ago I was laid off from here. Coming back many people said what a mistake it was to lose me over others. I like to think I would not be the first to go, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Greatest compliment I have ever had at work was given a short time ago. "when you take a day off, it's very noticable."

I've been here 14 years and seen many layoffs over the years. Never say never though.. It could and does happen to anyone.

I don't feel like anyone is safe anymore.

I was the last one hired at my company and so far they have gotten rid of a 5-6 people out of the 30 or so people that worked in my district. And I'm fixing to get a raise!

But 80% of the people who work at my place are ex-cons with a handful of teeth. So I'm the messiah of that place being I'm a white guy who works hard and has mad PR skillz which comes in great when the Yard of the Month is upset about a John Deere 310G in their front yard.

Thankfully, our company is in a spot right now that they'd be in a pretty tough bind if anyone in my department got let go. But, you never know. There have been quite a few firings lately, but I think it's a combination of taking out some trash and cutting some costs. Sort of killing two birds with one stone.

I don't expect anyone in my department to get let go any time soon. However, I also don't expect any kind of a raise.

I don't know. I consider myself lucky to even have a job at the moment (was recently laid off and have been working here for a little over a month now).

My company employs 65,000 world wide so I'd like to think I could get a transfer to somewhere.

I'm the only one here that does my job. My plan is to make myself invaluable so they couldn't afford to lay me off.

Now getting laid....that's a totally different topic.
