I think its great. No fees, all you pay for is the price of the box. It comes with software for a Mac or PC and they also have iPhone and Android apps. I have the Android app which was $20 I think.

If youre on the same local network the resolution is HD (using Slingbox Pro HD from an HD source) over my home cable modem the resolution is DVD and on my Droid over 3G its VGA or QVGA. I use it mostly to watch NFL games that arent on in my area, I usually plug my laptop into my TV over HDMI and the quality isnt as good as cable of course but its much better than any online streaming sources Ive seen. Even the mobile version is better than most of the stuff you see on Ustream or similar sites. I recommend it.

Why doesn't DirecTV try and block that?

They cant. The box plugs into the composite output of the DirecTV reciever then sends the signal over the local network connection and it uses IR blasters to control the box just like a normal remote. To the DirecTV box it might as well be a TV connected.

The cable company could probably block the packets sent by it if they wanted to though.

I do at work. You Tube is good for some things and Hulu has most new tv shows on it. You can also go to Discovery, History, Animal Planet, ect they have episodes also.

I use Hulu, Netflix and often the channels website if it's a show they arent airing on Hulu yet...

I was told about some other website, Channel 13 or something like that. Supposedly it's got pretty much every TV show ever aired and its all free to watch but I havent looked into it yet.

Ch 131...it's ok, you gotta jump through hoops to watch anything and some of the movies/tv shows are low quality aka mini-dv
