Gee, the states with the most affluent people, the biggest cities, the best research institutions, the best arts & entertainment destinations etc. have the highest gas taxes. This is news?

I certainly would have expected flyover states to have low taxes. What does a state like Wyoming or Iowa need a lot of money for? Their population density is zilch, and most of it is farmland.

Given that California has such a wonderous population density and kickass residents, coupled with the second highest gas taxes, then why the fuck are you always so broke?

That's what I can't figure out. I figured Jersey would be in the top 10.

I guess between the refineries (and whatever close relationship oil industry has with Jersey gov) and the high taxes the Jersey government is afraid to raise taxes on gas.

There is something fishy going on over there. They don't even let you pump your own gas
