depends on whether or not they're afraid of bungee cords and duct tape... I kid of course. I would think when they're old enough to hold on for themselves and understand that not doing so will be very bad..

My son is 6, I started taking him on rides when he was 5. Now I regularly take him to and pick him up from school on the bike. I also do rides with my step-son who is 9 now, but we've been riding for years together...long rides too.

did he start with the hard case as a back rest and eventually move away from it? I can see that making things a bit easier

Yea, but I had a mini backrest on my FZ1 and I have a sissy bar on my Magna.

Followed a guy through some twisties once. He was on a busa with his son on the back.
He wasn't going particularly fast. But, I thought it was so cool, I just settled in behind and enjoyed the ride with them. |
