Correct, acetaminophen (Tylenol) does nothing for inflammation (it's not an NSAID).

The whole Tylenol Arthritis Formula thing always makes me angry, because it does NOTHING for the inflammation of Arthritis (which is what can really do damage to your joints). It shouldn't even be allowed to be labeled as an Arthritis drug.

It's all about money.

The label says you can take one or two naproxin (Aleve), but you can take up to six (clinical dose) without overdosing.

The label says you can take one or two ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), but you can take up to ten (clinical dose) without overdosing.

The label says to take one or two acetaminophen (Tylenol), and you can safely take up to TWO.

That's a pretty bad margin for an OTC med.

We use to call Motrin "vitamin M" in the Air Force. My brother said they called it "ranger candy" in the Army.

Any drawbacks to hydrocodone?

I rarely take pain meds unless I have a giant insane headache. When i do I normally take naproxen.

No one mentioned aspirin so I figured why not get Dave Attell's take on it(about 20seconds in)...

Yes.

It turns you into a fat conservative wind bag radio talk show host.

Shit.

That's Oxycontin.

Nevermind.

That works.

Actually, yes, and not so much because of the synthetic opiod itself (which is a narcotic), but the fact that it is often "bundled" with acetaminophen.

Principally because acetaminophen significantly raises the risk of fatal overdose due to liver toxicity when taken with ANY amount of alcohol.

While Naproxin gives longer relief (~12 hours), my experience is that Ibuprofen (~6 hrs relief) is faster acting, and when your head hurts, minutes count.

I was joking about the first part but it does raise a question. I thought hydrocodone mixed with acetaminophen was (going with brand names) Vicodin while those mixed with ibuprofen was Vicoprofen? Wouldn't basic hydrocodone be Lortabs? I know they cut the shit but didn't think it was with that stuff.

I think a lot of it can be mental too. Naproxen may work slower but usually once I take it I get to feeling better shortly. I had no preference before but a couple of years ago I had a wisdom tooth come in with a vengence and called a 24hour dentist hot line. They gave me a Rx for naproxen and it helped a lot so I became faithful to it.
