I agree with the reply. Where the hell did the kid learn the mechanics? I find it disturbing that a six-year-old would even know how to commit suicide by hanging, much less be able to put that knowledge to use. Just too sad.
I started watching Westerns with my grandpa with I was 4....I've known what hanging would do to you since then.

My son is 6 and in Jujitsu. He not only understands the mechanics of a choke, but knows the difference between cutting off oxygen vs. cutting off blood flow, can show you different techniques to accomplish both, and fully understands how dangerous it is.

Kids learn to tie knots in cubscouts at what, 6 or 7? The ability of a child to be able to think and accomplish a goal doesnt suprise me one bit. The idea that a 6 year old would ever think of suicide, let alone attempt it, is what really shocks me. This is one of the saddest stories i've read in a long time. Poor thing, I cant imagine her fear when she started to realize what she'd done scary.

That's the first thing I thought about too and it honestly almost made me throw up. I had to get up and walk around for a minute. Absolutely terrible...

wow!! I'm sure she didn't realize the "whole outcome" of her actions but just the thought that she would do that for any reason is incredible. had to be some drama tv show she watched. "idolizing" some girl who said no one would know if i was dead or whatever.

i hate blaming tv for things generally but in this case, it doesn't seem too far fetched to think tv gave her the idea.

Suicide: a permanent solution to temporary feelings.

Had two relatives off themselves; guaranteed to mess up the family, too.

Wow...and I agree with you. When I was six that wouldn't have even been a thought at all...geez.

WOW! This is 40 miles away and I haven't seen a thing on our local news yet. I agree with Porkchop tho, how the fuck did a 6yo learn that?!

Whoa. Easy there.

Yeah, I'm sure she got the idea from TV. So what?

Ideas aren't to blame. Choices are.

Someone should have been helping this little girl with her choices a bit more carefully, and maybe watching her a bit closer.

Ideas abound in this world, both very good, and horribly bad. Choices, however, are everything. No thought police please.

Sadly, Darwin FTW.

Involve your kids. Hold them close, and help with their choices, in order for them to thrive, but more basically, to even survive.

It really is that important.

I'm surprised that people (at least in this particular thread) seem genuinely surprised and even shocked by this news story.

I'm not trying to say that its not a tragedy, or incredibly sad...but its not even close to unbelievable.
