How many miles do you go before you change your fork oil? - Page 3

I'm not the original owner, but I'm guessing this is 35k of used oil...............I mean it could be crude oil. Also you think dirty va jay jay smells bad, this tops it.

Did mine at 38K because I was upgrading the springs and the cartridge emulators...plus the seals were leaking a bit. Hubby thinks the oil had not been changed before that...

I had mine done about 5,000 miles, and they're due again @15,000 miles. The guy who did them, gave me a little glass vial of oil, after it settles it has 3/8" of metal powder in the bottom. That was after 5,000 miles. Now I don't know how he sampled the oil, but it has a lot of metal in it.

That metal is usually (and hopefully) all from the bushings.

The bushings should have a teflon coating. If there wasnt any on them then you got problems.

Even though the oil in my left fork was crude oil, the bushings looked brand new.
