I remember the G8 here in Georgia and how they handled hippies. First off they held the event on a privately owned Island (Sea Island) with 1 bridge in and out. So as long as you weren't on that island they really didn't give a shit what you did. If you did step foot on that private property then your "rights" went bye-bye as some 250lb Secret Service guy slams your face into the pavement (which I saw on TV and was so beautiful).

The whole thing reminded me of the Toronto Rodney King riot, in which a whole bunch of young people, most of them white, decided that an 'injustice' in another country was reason enough to trash Yonge Street and steal stuff from store windows. That'll sure show the government. Which government? Not the Ontario government.

When I came into work, after the G20 weekend, it was to see a bunch of shop windows smashed out. I'm sure that smashing out the windows of American Apparel and stealing a bunch of clothes sure showed The Man that globalization is a bad thing.

The planned location for the event was originally in Muskoka; 2 hours north of Toronto. Unfortunately they didn't have sufficient facilities. Never figured that the $1.0B dollars that they spent on prep and security would have been enough to build them. Still, the MP for that area managed to get a bunch of pork spent on his riding, so he was happy.

Well, you really have 2 main groups, the well intentioned protesters who actually care and try to do the right thing, and the lookyloos who get in on the action by smashing windows to get the free t shirt that was made in china from AA

Actually there were THREE groups; the 'honest' protesters, the assholes who were there to destroy things, and the people who acted as a screen and camouflage for the assholes who were smashing things.

Anyone taunting an armed individual by blowing bubbles in his face needs an ass-whooping, and was likely deprived of same as a child. The old mantra holds true: don't poke the bear.

The simple fact is that the majority of these "protestors" are simply opportunistic individuals who recognize a shot at some free shit or general anti-government shit-stirrers. The majority of the latter haven't the foggiest idea why they are so anti-government, but their friends and professors say they should be, so they make sure everyone knows about it.
