I think thats the thing is they need to look professional. In NYC now they allow male cops to have long dreadlocks and to me it seems I just cant take them as seriously as one with a military type hair cut, and this is comming from a guy who has long hair as well

mustaches on cops should be manditory!!! Along with these shorts so I can get a good laugh after I get pulled over.

I know cops are people too, but as a person of authority, maintaining a clean-cut, professional image is important.
Perhaps what fits within those parameters seems judgmental or arbitrary sometimes, but it creates the necessary separation between officers and civilians.
