Just installed iTunes
Step 1. Run installer
Step 2. Click finish
Step 3. Look at new tile that points to Apple update installer. (um...what about itunes?)
Step 4. Type itunes to pull up application I just fucking installed
Step 5. Switch to desktop mode to see if there are any icons lying around
Step 6. Switch back to metro to see if maybe I overlooked the tile
Step 7. Make mental note to not install a lot of stuff on windows 8 because having to scroll through all these fucking tiles is going to be annoying
Step 8. Look over at my lovely wallpaper on my windows 7 desktop. Bye bye...going to be staring at fucking tiles from now on.
Step 9. Switch back to desktop and estimate how many icons I'm going to be pinning to that taskbar
Step 10. Vaguely recall why the hell I'm poking around...oh yeah that fucking itunes I just installed.
Step 11. Reminisce about in every other OS I can just go to where the logical grouping of all installed apps are and just launch it from there.
Step 12. Go to windows 7 desktop and type itunes in search bar..
Step 13. Watch itunes launch on windows 7
Step 14. go back to windows 8 and say fuck this...proceed to multistep process to shut down.
Step 15. yank plug out of wall and...kick cat

Step gajillion (+) 1 : Notice Itunes box is unchecked.
Step gajillion +2: Curse apple

Lots of people are too stupid to comprehend groups and categories of apps. So they want an icon for each app, instead of a menu.

I have a Win 8 phone (Nokia 920), and I like how the tiles update whenever I get a new message (email, text, or VM). And there are other tiles I've installed that show stock market updates, sports scores, and so on. This allows you to see if anything has changed, without having to actually open the app.

But that's the only good thing about Win 8, imo. If you have a ton of apps and want to find them quickly, the old Start menu technique worked better.

I after careful thought, that mirrors the usage on my PC at home.
I open four things.

Outlook
Steam
Firefox
VMware player.

What I do in the VMware instances is another matter.

Oh I know too well. My users require that shortcuts be on the desktop or else they can't work

Well obviously if the shortcut isn't on the desktop, it means that the programme isn't installed.
