The internet is going to be regulated anyway, its already in the works...that'll happen whether or not the government pushes to offer high speed landline access to rural areas.

I agree on both counts. But I think a government run wifi will just speed the process up. At least with private internet companies the government will have to fight companies in court and so on to get the info or regulate it. A government ran wifi program will only need one government hack to regulate the content.
