Here's a link to a HDR shot that was done by an amateur photographer I know in NYC. This sort of shot is what I consider the benchmark for good HDR.

This HDR fad needs to go away. At first, it was cool and looked like a painting, now that every fuckin tom dick and harry is doing it, it needs to stop. Fucking fads.
