Check the ignition points. They might be worn out. But my money's on the distributor cap.

I've run 87 in my cbr600rr with no ill effects,(no pinging, no knocking) but only 1 tank at a time when I screw up at the gas station and forget what bike I'm on.

I don't know much about mechanics but I didn't think there were points or distributor caps with electronic ignitions.....

Its not Electronics Ignition...Its Ignition Points...Where the Spark Plug wire plugs into the Cap...There is a Metal Contact point.

honestly, i put the better stuff-91-in the bike cuz it seriously like a 40cent difference in total price. even tho the bike calls for 90, i doubt id notice a dif if i ran 87.
i wonder if i get it tuned, if i could find more power with 87 than 91 cars gets cheap stuff, racebike gets 110-114 |

So a little update...
I talked with my mechanic about what happened. Seeing he has more in-site to my situation, his explaination makes sense. I don't have covered parking at my place, the bike came with a cover - but it's a cheap one more for dirt, not rain/weather. We've had some heavy rains here lately. My mechanic said the gas cap doesn't have a seal and I probably had some water get in the gas tank. I got an all-weather cover for my bike for Christmas, so hopefully it won't happen again. Thank you again for all your feedback. |
