Why? Because patchouli is natural mothballs. When these carpets arrived in the homes of the wealthy and powerful the smell couldn't be removed, and eventually the idea that this smell was of mothballs was forgotten and the smell became associated with wealth. So here are the hippies wearing mothball scent so that they can pretend to be wealthy.

In the late 60's, I would wear patchouli because it smelled like Persian hashish. In the 70's, it was the sweet smell of Castrol two-stroke fumes on all my clothes. Now it's just high-octane fumes.

It was Obsession Night, but it's almost gone and I don't think they make it anymore. After it's gone I may have to run through the obstacle course at Macy's and try to find something new without being douched with awful samples.

I feel sorry for them. The one I go to is filled with older ladies dressed up in that supposed-to-be-professional-but-it's-still-just-a-jacket-with-huge-shoulder-pads generic outfit with two departments worth of makeup and a daily marinade of awful perfume seeping into their leathery over tanned suitcase skin. And you can tell the moderately hot ones who work over in makeup look down their noses at these battle axes because they throw some nasty looks their way whenever some lady trying to get some new perfume to go with the fuck ton of overpriced makeup asks them to point them in the direction of the perfume counter.

But they can at least hold their heads up high that they're not the completely embittered hatchet wounds that operate the watch counter. Talk about bitter fucking people. Perhaps it's having to pull out ten of the same style watch so that Captain Arm Fat can tell if the Fossil watch looks dignified, or if it just squeezes the lard between the links.

the stories in my head are probably better than their real lives

Acqua di Gio is yummy. On men especially.. the women's version is nice too.

Lately I've been using Provocative Woman by Elizabeth Arden.. I also like J'adore by Christian Dior and Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker.
