Why would they say they were raped if they really weren't once they're already out? Who is a more reliable source than those that were there doing the time?

Maybe they were raped... and maybe they said it was so common to somehow diminish their experience... "it's not as bad if it happened to everyone"

Maybe they weren't raped, but wanted to make the experience sound more hardcore than it was... or maybe they just wanted to make people feel sorry for them despite their prior bad acts...

I dunno... people do and say crazy shit all the time to get attention... I'd have a hard time beleiving an ex-con on face value... Obviously it would be different if I had some sort of personal relationship with them to be able to guage reliability, otherwise I wouldn't buy it.

I'm a little surprised, I had always assumed it was common knowledge that there was a good chance you're going to get raped if you go to prison and that everyone just thought it was ok because, "if you don't want to get raped in the ass don't do anything wrong."
