Like marko said, I don't think it's actually fuel boiling. Do I hear something from the tank area on occassion... yes, like twice I've heard it. But I do belive it has to do with the fuel pump keeping propper pressure on the fuel lines, as it really doesn't sound like "boiling"


And osp, I may have to try that wrap. How thick is it though? There isn't a lot of clearance between frame and rear header.

Wrap 'em. After I did mine the frame stayed cool... as did my right leg... In fact, you could ride for 6 hours and reach down and grab the pipe bare handed... It was hot, but wouldn't burn you...

what i heard wasnt based on moisture. based on heat. but like i said, the examples i saw were in the car world (under the hood), and bike pipes are usually in the wind

Thickness is comparable to an ace bandage... You get a couple wraps around and with the overlap it can get relatively thick... I'd say if you had 1/16" of room you'd be ok...

Rode to work today. A whole 4 mile trip. They are turning gold and they look badass!

this isnt really convincing, and its right above ads to sell exhaust wrap. but its another side to the story i suppose

this is from doug thorley headers warranty stuff
"1) The utmost care is taken at Thorley Headers to maintain the highest standards of quality.
However, Thorley Headers cannot control the installation of the product. For this reason, the
Thorley Headers warranty covers only the replacement of the components - not the labor for
the installation.
2) The use of any type of “header wrapping” voids the warranty. Using any sort of wrapping
material on the headers destroys the tubing’s ability to dissipate heat, causing very rapid
deterioration of the metal and the subsequent failure of the headers."

the general idea seems to be that while wrapping it does keep it cooler, it keeps all the heat in the pipe, and destroys it from the inside out. ceramic coating doesnt have the negative effect the wrap does because its coated on the inside as well as the outside.

it also seems that most of the destroyed pipes/headers were race pipes, which can be very slightly thinner walled material. but whens the last time some1 payed attn the "for race use only" or "not for use on public streets" tag when you buy stuff?

imo-wrap looks wack on some pipes, cool on others. some guys get creative with it and weave patterns into their stuff. for perfomance reasons, it makes sense that ceramic would work better than wrap just becuz ceramic is inside and out.
