Can't speak on behalf of your kid's school in particular, but keep in mind that a lot of these stupid rules and practices trickle down from the board, the city, the state, etc and are often just as much of a headache for teachers and principals as they are students and parents. They couldn't pay me to let him eat the shit they serve in public schools. You don't get to be a competitive force in sports eating shit food like that.

No, they don't have to, they choose to. Everyone is responsible for his own decisions, and if you make a kid feel like shit over some policy then its still on your conscience.
