Me too.
Be a contrary ass just because you can.....like most people in this thread. Is it really going to hurt you to turn your lights off for an hour? Imagine how differen the world would be if we all did one small thing. |

Nothing is going to actually change because the power company will still produce the same amount of electricity based on historical and max needs of the area served for a saturday night.

BTW, 1 hour wouldn't even give us time to shut down the peakers and they also scheduled this during a time when the grid is very lightly loaded to begin with, we wouldn't shutdown anything and the carbon impact from this would be almost zero. It was a dumbass goal. You need a few hours in the middle of a business day that is one of the hottest or coldest days of the year to make a large impact.

To me, the point is not that it's going to have a significant impact for the one hour. Obviously (for the reasons you stated) it's not. It's to raise awareness and show people that you don't have to have every single light on in your house just because you can. It's called a social conscience....some people don't have one.

And those historical trends would decline if everyone started paying more attention to their power usage. Common sense.

it's the same thing with recycling, some people poo-poo it when in reality it doesn't take any more time or effort....... Just use the blue container for recycles, the other for trash......And if you don't have one, buy one, they're not that expensive. Last edited by Homeslice; 03-29-2009 at 04:22 PM.. |
