11 is not too young to be menstruating. I have taken 2 adolescent psychology classes and girls are starting to drop them earlier and earlier. There was a flow chart over the last 50 years and it has shown a steady downward curve in age, and more doctors are seeing girls as early as 9 or 10 develop. While someone above was on the right track with the additives in the food and drinks, they are missing the big picture.... the food! Children today are eating more than the children of say the 60's, and generally there is just more food available. This in turn provides more nutrition and more fat storage in young girls. Of course the hightened nutrition speeds up development of the body, but the fat storage is the key. Excess fat triggers the pituitary gland which starts the flow of those crazy "female" horomones...

Just like when you have an anorexic/bulemic girl that stops menstruating.... lack of nutrients and lack of fat stop the trigger horomone release.

I showed my son pictures of what advanced VD looks like when he was 11.

He keeps these in his locker at school and shows them to his friends. No one knocked up among his friends yet.

Some of you Daddy-boys need to lighten the fuck up and have a conversation with your daughters rather than just threaten to kill them. And, I know, I know... it's the internet and it's easier to post something about "killing them" or "grounding them until their 30" as an unrealistic solution rather than posting about the steps you've taken with the young women in your lives to prevent it in the first place...

Take my ex-husband, for example. I wanted our 15-year-old on birth control pills. He got angry and told me it's his job as her father to "keep her off the pole" [no, I don't know what that means.]
My daughter has been educated about sex and has had more conversations with her mom at age 13 than most kids get in a lifetime about sex. She completely understands whats its all about, the relevancy of her choices and the negative consequences she will face if she makes that choice.

So its OK for Pre-teens and teens alike to have sex, get pregnant and ruin multple lives in the process?? Is this young one capable of taking on that role? Is anyone that age, really? I understand too about the raging hormones of a boys who want nothing more than to get their dick wet and don't care or understand the consequences of getting a girl pregnant. Kids need to be kids and not be forced to be grown-ups at age 11. Financially, psychologically and physically these kids are not ready for this.

Nope. I never said it IS ok. I just believe it's neanderthalic [at best] to threaten a child with death if they don't do as you say...

We had a first grader who was menstruating at my old school, yes she was a bit older, but seriously, I think she was only 8.

Very very scary though.. I am now hoping that this baby is a BOY

I was 11 and I thought I was dying too. My mom just gave me some product said it was normal and walked away. Her sex talk (or lack of one) was just as educational. She was terrified and she and my dad used the fear tactics on me. It worked. I made it past my 18th birthday a virgin. I feared their opinion of me and letting them down more than anything. Kids these days are losing that respect I think. If I didn't respect them I would have let my 14 year old boyfriend (6'3" my dad is 5'8" they were terrified of him) have his way. A little bit of fear is a good thing but I wish my mom had the guts to talk to me instead of me looking everything up. Shit she put a doctors note in my lap at 20years old saying "I think its time for this (first gyn apt) I told her I had taken myself 3 years earlier but thanks for askin. she about fainted.

Its not as mean as banning her from the fridge, she really was not allowed near the fridge. I remember when I was there visiting and she was eyeing my raisins. They said she can only have one raisin, not one pack, but one raisin!

Hokie, I never had the sex talk either. Luckily my school was really good about sex ed and drugs ed. My mom said I couldn't go to the gyno until I got married because she though I was going to stay a virgin.

I used to tell my dad instead when I was going to my yearly appointments. Funny thing is that I found their marriage cert and realized that my brother was conceived out of wedlock!
