It's all the same thing, purposely dehydrating body is never safe. But he's only going to drop 10lbs, which in the grand scheme of things SHOULD be ok. Also if he just does it to make a weigh in, he can easily regain that water by carbing up and rehydrating the day of his fight(pending it's a night fight and he weighed in hours earlier)
I actually get to weigh in the night before the fights, so I can do pretty much any crazy thing I need to on that day to make weight. BUT, I don't want to go into my fights the next day feeling like shit, as I expect to have around 7 fights or so.

Its not until August so I have PLENTY of time to lose the fat I need to walk at 150 and drop 5lbs in a sauna. That's the plan anyway.

Muscular development as well as a LOW bodyfat will bring them out.
I feel pretty strong for my size, I routinely tap guys with 50-60lb weight advantages over me, so I wouldn't say I'm skinny. Really, I grew up on sodas and have a bunch of unhealthy belly fat that is sticking around because its been there for so long. Everything above the bellybutton is veiny and muscular. And that's what has been so frustrating.

No matter how you drop the water, you're going to feel the same. However if you can just drop 5lbs, you'll feel better than dropping 10.(theoretically)

Why not experiment one weekend soon so you can see how much you can drop and how you feel in 12hrs? Like I said, once you weigh in, eat your carbs, drink your electrolytes (BRAWNDO!) and all the water you can muster... Check your energy levels then by going through some workouts that are equivalent to those fights.

Awesome advice, I might finally put my 24hr Fitness membership to use tomorrow and give it a shot. Thanks dude.

I have a smallish frame...kinda built like an alien. Size small in a Shoei helmet, but XXXL in most gloves. But if you look at boxers and MMA fighters 6' and 145lb fighting weight isn't too uncommon. My last competition was at 167lbs, and I was 186 when I started training hard in January. I definitely like being lighter, much, much more energy and stamina for martial arts, and just in general.
