those Kriega bags are the shit! they're small...(they make other sizes) but shit... if you're looking to carry LUGGAGE then get fuck'n saddle bags... the point of that bag is to be water proof, easy detach, and not interfere with your ride. they make 10 and 20 liter sizes...

if you're canyon carving a backpack will let you move around more on the bike. also it will let you get down out of the wind more on long highway jaunts.

Long trips, full luggage. Sunday rides, if it wont fit in the tail or minimally in my pockets, I dont need it. I hate backpacks, they hurt my back and irritate me on longer rides. I will however strap one to my luggage and use it as a sort of back rest.

I used to hate backpacks... cause they killed my back...

but on the DRZ... where I sit up right... I don't really notice it's there... though it feels weird when it's not...

but I carry a small camel back backpack... nothing more than 5-10 lbs...

I don't own a tank bag yet, so I will use the backpack, but if I'm packing it with heavy or awkward objects, I'll use my strap my backpack to the rear seat with my cargo net.
