My parents never talked to me about sex, birth control, my period, body, anything. I don't really remember how I learned. I think I just read stuff and we learned about it in health class.

Wow! That's some crazy shit. The fact that you're going to begin bleeding for a week straight and the reasons behind it seems like need to know information. So not only did she fail to educate you, but she also refused to allow you to be educated. "I don't want you to learn from people that know what they're talking about, I'd rather you learn from other teenagers."

I'm not tryin' to bag on your Mom...but Jesus Christ that's fucked up. Why is the human body such a big, bad deal to people?

I showed my son pictures of what advanced VD looks like when he was 11.

He keeps these in his locker at school and shows them to his friends. No one knocked up among his friends yet.

Damn. I haver nightmares about this stuff. My daughter is 9 right now, and thats about the age where the women in her mothers family started to menstrate, I'm kinda dreading the talk, and I have a feeling it might just be me giving the talk. Add to that the 11 year old pregnancy story, makes for one hell of a nightmare.

Although my daughter did make honor roll in school this marking period.

11 is average. and once you start menstruating, your body IS ready for children. End. Of. Story. Mother nature takes care of things - having a period means your body is prepared to have children, it's how mother nature set it up.

For our culture, it's not the norm. For others it IS.
