Most people with thyroid problems, cant gain weight because their body produces too much metabolic chemicals (thyroxine or T4 and triiodothyronine, or T3). The one in a million who dont produce enough, can get supplements. The thyroid does slow down later in life.

My dad was 315 at about 5'10. Huge all his life. With a nutritionists, he went down as far as 185. He didnt feel that good, and went back up to about 220-230.

Anyone can be in any shape they want, it is that simple.

yeah but body scructure also plays a big role too. there are people out there that even if they lost enough weight to be fit they would still outwardly appear overweight

I'm another example of that. Skinny genetics in my family, my brothers are each 170-160lbs at 6'4" and 6'2". I'd been 140lbs at 6'2 years back, and through training and nutrition, I'm now at 210 and about 14% bf.

Thats what I was thinking! Neither Tommy or Tigger is fat (tho I think Tig has a complex).

Theres a difference between being big boned, overweight, and obese.

Up until the last few years, I was one of those people constantly accused of having an eating disorder because I am naturally small. I have no reason for it, as no one else in my family is that way, but from the time I was a small child I've had people trying to feed me. It can be irritating.

As Ive gotten older, my metabolism has slowed significantly and now staying at a decent weight requires effort. I've been 30 pounds overweight, Ive been 15 pounds underweight. I can FEEL the drag even when I put on a few pounds, as well as the ill feeling when I am too thin.

I know how people let themselves go, but I dont understand why they dont put in the effort needed to see a doc for help, or eat right (hard as it is), or to exercise (tho I know it sucks).

I feel bad for them.

Id like to say they are only hurting themselves, but anyone whos sat next to someone who needed 2 seats plus some of yours, or who had to wait to pass someone in a motorized buggy at walmart because they are too ill due to obesity to carry themselves around, or who has to deal with their health issues suffers too.

I just don't understand it....I mean, how the fuck do people do that to themselves?....Eat and eat and eat and eat and fail to exercise to the point that they require a motorized wheel barrow to haul their lard asses around.

It's that kind of crazy self destructive behavior that baffles me....toss in the invariable rationalizing and excuse making that usually comes with it and I just write people like that off entirely.
