That doesn't mean we should accept it and take it to extreme cases, like deciding who is employable and who is not. What matters is that cop's personal ability to do the job. I'm reading another article on the Star Telegram about Six Flags denying entry to certain people based on their tattoos, or forcing them to cover the tattoos. Again, completely absurd. If you don't like the tattoo, don't fucking look at it.

Lets judge people for something more important, like being a fucking lazy fat ass....there's plenty of fat lazy people to hate on, and their condition is far more harmful to society than tattooing.

A tattoo might let him better interface with a certain portion of the population. Unfortunately his job isn't that limited. We aren't talking about a regular citizen here. Appearance is used as a mental short form for what's beyond the book's cover. Someone in a position of authority has to project that.

If it's OK to turn down a job candidate because of the way they're dressed, then it's OK to do it because of a tattoo.

Besides, if you really wanted that job, you could have had your tat removed. Or you could have put it on a part of your body that isn't visible under work clothes. Or just not get one in the first place. Therefore it can't be compared to discriminating against people because they are Black or 60 years old. They can't do anything about that. You can.

If I could hide a 4 diameter displacement collarbone break and the associated pain while interviewing for my present job, then you would think that someone would be able to cover up a sleeve.

Now the ones who got neck/facial tats..... Well those aren't exactly a good career move anyway.

Those people usually are lucky enough to have an untatted doctor dad who support them while they work at Urban Outfitters and try to advance their Indy music career.

Just b/c you can cover them in an interview doesn't mean you have to cover them once you get the job. Just sayin.

I take out my earrings for interviews, but I wear them to work every day. And my tattoos show when I wear short sleeve shirts.

PS...I work for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
