everyone is going to disagree about some movies on your lengthy list, but keep in mind that you want them to be something that the rest of the world knows about, has seen, or is quoted or farced in the media.

is spaceballs on the list? the entire movie is quotable. and usually is on a constant basis. so much so, you probably know half the quotes and don't know why you know them or why they are really so funny. see this after starwars 4-6 and planet of the apes(first one with Heston), though.

History of the World Part 1 is also still relevant and funny.

Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail.
like spaceballs, timeless Humor, still quoted, etc....

speaking of starwars, i can't say that i agree with the notion of seeing them in numerical order. while the story line might make more sense, the rest of the world saw them in release date order 4,5,6 - 16 yearsish - 1 , 2, 3. the original triglogy is worlds better, one is horrible and then two and three get slightly better. but you would have a better grip on what the rest of the world's problem is with george lucas, and all the raping jokes on south park etc , etc ,etc....

speaking of lucas raping, was the first three indiana jones on that list?

you got some tarantino flicks on there,
but do you have
true romance ?

some others he was in / affiliated with :
desperado
once upon a time in mexico (sequel to above)
From Dusk till Dawn (the first one ONLY)

I definitely put a BIG emphasis on Army of Darkness, possibly the greatest movie ever made. HOWEVER : This makes fun of many things, to fully appreciate it, you should have at least passing knowledge of:
texas chainsaw massacre (original - should see it anyway)
Gulliver's Travels (the book from english literature, a movie remake will suffice)
the werewolf
The Scream (painting by Edward Munch)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original or remake will suffice)

that's just off the top of my head, but other's as well....
you may or may not want to see the prequels Evil Dead I & II, but they are not of the same caliber as AoD. also they are both summed in the first 5 minutes of AoD to bring you up to speed.

did you see Tron? this will be remade for IMAX 3D for next christmas time, big pop culture phenom. way ahead of it's time and still relevant.

The Island , i gave that sleeper of the year award 2-3 years ago, but not necessarily pop culture legend.

Killer Clowns From Outer Space
