I forgot about this thread. Buddy is nearly 2 1/2 and he is a trim 75lbs. Best dog I've ever had. No comparison.

Sad update: we picked Sadie up on Tuesday 11/30 - she got sick on Sunday and diagnosed with PARVO!! We spent the next week administering home IV, antibiotics and anti-emetics and despite all that, she passed away on Friday 12/10.

We are now going after the rescue organization - they are denying ANY responsibility, we only ask that they take the correct steps to make sure that the other puppies are safe (there were 4 in the litter) and that no other dogs are infected. Parvo is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS and once at your facility/house it's there for 1-3 YEARS. They adopted out a dog this fall that had parvo so they KNEW they had the virus at their house but still brought suseptible dogs there - are are STILL taking in dogs at risk.

They won't refund any portion of our $300 adoption fee or reimburse any of our vet fees. I plan on getting them closed down so no other dogs have to die due to their negligence and/or ignorance.

$777 later - 11 days in our home - RIP Sadie.

What can you do to fix/clean your house?? So you could have another dog?

I remember when we got Brinks, we wouldn't even let him walk on the floor at Petsmart till he had his parvo shots.

wow so sorry to hear that. hopefully no risk to your other dog? I lost a dog to parvo fom a breeder long ago, it was not fun to go through.

The 2 vets (and all the internet research) say that really we can't get it out - we can bleach everything in the house and that will lower the chances - but anywhere she used the bathroom outside is infected and parvo lives without a host - I could try and bleach my entire yard but even that doesn't guarantee anything.
As far as the rescue org - they have NO vet records, we have to go on their word that they administered shots at home - but only one set of shots. We have an adult boxer at home but he's been vaccinated so he's safe - and we can get another adult dog as long as there are vet records that they've been vaccinated - but we can't take in a stray with unknown vet history or any puppies. It's a series of shots - not just one dose so we have to know that they've been through the series.

*sigh* it's just so unfair to have watched this tiny puppy go through such a rough time - it was horrendous and just when we thought she was turning the corner, she had a seizure due to (probably) blood sugar levels in the brain.

All because the rescue organization is money hungry (I've since done extensive research on her - research that admittedly we should have done before we adopted the puppy - buyer beware. lesson learned.)

OH yeah... it's a serious set of shots. It was all part of Brinks' puppy shots.

Oh my God... wow... they should have their licensure revoked based on that alone. They are knowingly risking the lives of innocent animals.

and I'm with Gas Man. when our APBT and our Boxer were pups, I carried them everywhere and didn;t do dog parks or anything until the series of Parvo shots were done.
