Your choice in music and style can change. Hell I don't listen to a lot of the crap I did in high school. My taste in music change substantially growing up. I think a band should be afforded that luxury as well.

Did Mettalica sell out or just changed to reflect there age?

You can only channel so much angst and anger when your biggest concern is how to meet with your advisor about balancing your portfolio prior to going on tour.

Fair enough. I guess that's why I don't like most of the band I liked 10 years ago. I know I have evolved as a music listener. I find that year after year I find myself listening to heavier music than I did the year before.

Actually I do think there could be valid term for sellout. A group or individual formed by others and music is written by others to create mainstream pop music that is not of interest to the individual/group solely to make money. AKA boy bands.

Reminds me of when I was wathing a show about the history of Metal and Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains was talking about Metallica being a sell out. He said, you know what, they sell out every night.

Hmm...shaky concept, Trip.

Lately, I write a lot of straight-for-the-jugular pop. Shit I couldn't, as a nearly 50-year-old-man, possibly get away with singing myself. Is it contrivance? Maybe. I only know it's what sometimes plays on the "radio in my head", and I usually try to jot it down when I dig that it's shit I'm actually writing in real time, and not something I heard from another artist just playing in my head (which also happens at least 60% of the time). It's probably a product of the fact that I have a teenage daughter, and the genre is "rubbing off".

If I produced this music, and had my 16-year-old daughter (a very talented vocalist) sing this shit, and it goes platinum, am I a sell-out?
