Right. I had 2 years in HS and I took 4 courses as required for my bachelors degree. I can't form a full sentence in spanish.

I learned all of my Spanish from listening to Tejano radio station morning shows.

HS Spanish was worthless.

Yo habla muy pequeno espanol.

Im sure I got the phrasing wrong...but I took 2 years, and while I can understand it brokenly, I speak very little. The education system failed me. Wheres my Rosetta stone?

It was for me too, but that was 20 plus years ago. I remember the bad stuff though.

Yep. Growing up in Texas was beneficial, but when I left, I forgot everything I knew anyway. You'd think living with P.Ricans would have brought it back, but its a whole different ball game. I get the gist of it, but cant respond in kind.

Oh wait, Lettuce is Lechuga.

Yeah the slang is a lot different. Mexican Spanish it way different that true Spanish.

I spent a year in Japan and learned some phrases and that was about it. I did know how to ask a girl in the bar what time she got off and if she wanted to get together.

I went on several dates with girls that brought along a Japanese/English dictionary with them. Fortunately some things are just a universal language.

HS Language isn't worth anything. No, it will teach you how to complete homework assignments and how to conjugate verbs.

Being dropped in the middle of Mexico.... you LEARN Spanish.
