Text messages - oh how scary!!! Someone is interested in knowing about what I want for dinner, how the Mrs did on her exam, and what time my party starts! How will I survive?!

Interwebz search history - I can't handle it!!! People are gonna know I've looked at porn, I like motorcycles, and I buy shit off of Craigslist and eBay!!! Dear god!!!

So fucking what... who cares... you could probably find out all of that shit about me in a 5 minute conversation anyway... My litmus test - if I meet someone new, would I share that shit with them? If the answer is yes, then it's NOT sensitive information.

We aren't talking activation codes to nuke warheads here people, you aren't that special. If they can use that info to figure out what ads to send me, let them go to town on it... probably make my immersion into the world of consumerism more enjoyable anyway.

Heh, it's like people who black out their license plate info in pictures on the internet... Do you cover that shit up when you park your car outside of Wally-World? What's the fucking difference? It's on the back of your car at all times... does putting it out on the web make it MORE public?
Most people I know (of all ages) prefer to keep at least some personal details private.

Eventually you're going to run into a certain person, or social situation, or job opportunity where you won't want them to know that you frequently download interracial anal pr0n, or that you buy & sell Nazi memorabilia on Ebay, or whatever it is that you do.

The only place I could see this being a possibility through the monitoring of phone useage and whatnot, would be for government jobs. Otherwise, is your phone provider or the company who writes the app really going to give your information to some chick you try to pick up at the grocery store or the big wig you want to impress at the fancy dinner?

It's all about how useful the info is... Anyone who cares enough about that info can get it easily enough from other sources already... I know I'm never going to be trying to get double secret security clearance, so who the fuck cares. It's not like they are going to gather this information and tattoo it to your forehead.

I honestly think we're moving towards that day. With how everyone seems so laissez-faire about sharing their personal details on Facebook, linking their FB to tons of other sites, letting Gmail scan their emails for key words, etc.

Companies are starting to assume we don't care about privacy, or at least won't protest.....So they create default settings with no privacy protections, and you have to read 100 pages of fine print to even know they did that.

I, but for a few professional instances, where required (and then only in my "stage name"), am kinda scarce on the Internet.

Curiously, all of my most intellectual friends of the past are too.

It's made catching up with them more difficult, over the past few years, but it's pretty consistent. The ones I remember as being the smart ones ARE actually keeping their info off the radar...I'm sure it's not a coincidence.

I meant personal/sensitive to you, not to your employer.

What sort of skeletons do you fuckers have in your closet?

I have a foul mouth, a sick sense of humor, look at porn, and have had my fair share of illegal substances flow through my veins... I couldn't see ANY of that hindering my ability to get a job.

I've sat in more than enough meetings with corporate executives who were dropping f-bombs, talking about the hot secretary, and making inappropriate jokes to know that it doesn't fucking matter.

If you don't have a criminal record, can pass a drug test *now*, and have the skills/education/experience required for the position, you're hired. I don't plan on working with children... fucking hate 'em. I don't plan on working in the public sector in any capacity that would warrant anyone even contemplating going that far to find out about me.

It's one thing for a recruiter to jump on Facebook to find out a bit about a person, it's another for them to go out and buy data on text messaging and internet usage. Again, I got nothing to hide.

In my experience, with corporate jobs, nobody does what you describe, unless it's the Sales team going out for happy hour. Everyone else is very practiced at watching what they say.

Now, if it's a blue-collar business, or a small internet startup full of 20-somethings, things would be different.........But I'm talking large Fortune 500 type environments.

Maybe in the meetings but get those guys/gals out afterward and it is a whole different story.

I'm talking Fortune 100 type environments.
