Searching for a new bike.
as per this thread.
some of you may know i'm looking for a new bike. Bittersweet. Havent done this in a while. I'm going to have between 5 and 6 k to drop on a new toy, i've been looking at this 929 so far. he's asking 5k for it, which isnt bad considering its got a decent slip on (i'd sell) nice fender eliminator, frame sliders, flushmounts, and is VERY CLEAN with only 8k miles. It seems to have been maintained OKAY (theres really not TOO much you can fuck up in 8k miles), but nothing that would cause serious trouble down the road. runs good. but there are some kickers (there always are) He is a retard. He fricking CUT the stock shift/brake levers shorter because he "only uses two fingers anyways" and he put the most ugly ridiculous grab bar on the back (looks like the spoiler from the car on joe dirt) by cutting two holes in the tail section and attatching it to the frame. so gay. Other than this stupid shit the bike is so clean, cept for some stickers (im guessing they thought they added HP) KBB is about 51XX, and i told him i would be thinking more around 4.7k. he said he was firm. i still like the bike. still looking, but thoughts/opinions? |

Stay away. That "grab bar" is a 12 oclock bar. Stunters use it to know if they come too far back when doing a wheelie.
So the bike has more then likely been wheelied alot. If i'm not mistaken the way the motor on the 929 is set up, repeated wheelies can starve the motor of oil and cause long term damage. I could be wrong on that part as i'm not a stunter. But I remember it was either the 929 or 954 that had issues from repeated wheelies. But the 929 has definatly been stunted. Plus 5k is high. If you really like the bike and it really looks like it's in good shape, offer him $4,500 firm. If not take your money elsewhere.

That's a 12 o'clock bar for stunting. Check the fork seals for leaks carefully.
The 929 is a strong motor with loads of torque. |

Thats what i was thinking when i offered 4700 to test the waters... only thing is this guy did not strike me as a stunter of any sorts. good heads up though.
also found a 2004 gsxr 600 about an hour away for 5k. 21k miles, but he claims its been well maintained and its spotless. Imma go take a look this weekend. Quote:
yea the seals were one of the first things i went to look for. specially when he told me there was a 520 conversion on the bike. i would have walked away then and there if he had not said he still had the stock sprockets. |

Rather attractive I think, you can always repair or replace the tail section, if its clean and you get it checked out and it comes back no issues it looks like a good buy...as for the cutting the levers, well, thats not that big a deal either, I have a few friends down here that do the same thing...I wouldnt do it, but to each his own...
you didnt say dude was a stunter, so I assume the 12 o clock bar is for poser purposes only, but again, get a good check up by someone who knows before buying... |

Don't get over anxious... You can find a better deal than either one of those bikes if you have a little patience... PM OTB... he was offering his bike buying secrets to anyone who PM'ed him in another thread...
Go into any shop and start talking to the service guy... Then offer him a case of his favorite brew to come look at it with you... |

Hell OTB may find the bike for him. He hooked Marko up. Tell him what you are looking for as well NTS.
What are you looking for so I can keep my eye out for good deals. Price range and such.
