Salary Questions
How do I come up with a salary expectation range for a job I've never done before?
I went to workopolis and found 5 jobs that were very similar (they didn't have this specific job listed). I then got the high and low for each job. Basically I added them all up and averaged out the highs and lows to get the range. But I still don't know if it's even in the same ball park. What should I take into consideration? I don't want to low ball myself but I also don't want to go back with a number that's too high. |

Do a search on monster and see if they have any listings for the job with a salary. Or post up the job description here...someone might have an idea.

www.salary.com doesn't help me because it's an american site. I did however, find some useful information on a few Canadian sites (monster being one of them).
I also have a couple of friends who work in HR so I emailed them and they liked the number I came up with. I sent it off....now just waiting to hear back! |

Good luck. How's the economy going up in Canuk land? I hope it's not as bad as it is down here.

Economy is bad up here too. I'm a teacher but having a very hard time finding anything in that field at all. It's really bad for teaching. I was laid off other work too.
I put out an average of 3 or 4 resumes A DAY!!!! I apply to anything and everything in the hopes that I will find work just to support myself. This job is an avenue to another career pursuit that is loosely related to teaching. |

Kind of figured as much. Hate to hear that you are having such a hard time, but it's like that down here too. My wife cannot find any work (she still has a good paying job, but for how long we don't know) unless she looks 1.5 to 2 hours away from home. That sux as I really don't want to move, but I guess we all have to make sacrifices....

We have a department of labor that gives salaries, would you have something like that from the government?
