Default Holy crap that's expensive.

I'd like to learn spanish again since it didnt stay in my brain from high school. Went to rosettastone.com to see what all the hype is about from their commercials. Good god it's expensive. Combo lessons 1-5 is $750!!!! Three months of online service is $200! Fuck me sideways.

Yeh, its super expensive, but you do get what you pay for, for $750 I can pretty much guarantee that if you put the effort in you will learn the language.

An alternate is livemocha.com. I have been told that its pretty good too, and they have a free section thats based around social network learning, and a paid section where they have interactive classes for less than $200 for a full year. Its not as good as rosetta stone, but you get what you pay for, and you also get out of it what you put in too. Thats not to say that it isnt a good program, it is, just rosetta is more structured and easier to use. This is all based on second hand knowledge from other people.

Either one should be a good choice though

Also you can find the 5 level rosetta stone used for close to $300, just gotta look for it. Ive seen it for lots less too on craigslist

Found a guy that did a good review on rosetta and said that there's actually not a lot of content as Tellmemore.

I found livemocha. Been reviewing people and doing a trail run right now.

Like I said, its all second hand knowledge so take it at face value.

I prefer not to take it to the face if I don't have to.

Default It's worth the loot

I can attest to this as I was stationed at Ft Hood, Tx with some linguists in the Military Intelligence unit I was assigned to. That is what they give the students at Monterrey, Ca at the language institute, for part of the course work. And is also used by the state dept for the translators as well.
If its good enough for the Gov't, by golly, its good enough for us regular folk.

Theres a program I can access as a dependent of the AF that is very similar to Rosetta stone, I just log into the base library site and can stream it for free. Can't remember the name of it, but if you are military you should check with your local base library.
