You can get texts for free and not pay for texts through your phone company.

You can have people call your Google number and EVERY phone you want will ring, ie cell, home, office, etc... Also, you can tailor which phones will ring by who's calling AND you can make custom out going messages based on who's calling you, example;

*ring* ring* "Hey Derf you fruit pie, I can't come to the phone right now because I'm banging your mom, I'll call you back after she's done swallowing...leave a message after the beep" *beep*

You don't need an Android phone to use Google Voice, FYI. But, if you already have an Android phone, all the better. I use my Google Voice number for free texting. That's pretty much it.

Yes, you can use Google Voice's full potential on blackberry/win mo/pretty much anything except iphone because Apple/AT&T is a douche about it and won't allow the app. You have to jailbreak it to get it.

Google isn't douchetastic like apple, so they allow their apps on everything that wants them.

True. I don't need anything more than email to get my free texts though, so it works for me.

Convincing people to email you instead of using a phone number is tough. I got tired of that shit, it's much easier to just give them a google voice number.

They don't need to. They text my GV number. GV forwards the text to my gmail account. Reply to the email and it texts them back, from my GV number. No GV app needed.

Android gives you the option to use gv for all calls, only international calls, all texts, you can have it prompt you before you make a call and ask if you want to use gv. Its just more integrated in android.

Well then you are using GV to do the txting. I thought you meant pure email txt. You can text to a persons email address just as easy as a phone number, but it takes awhile to convince some people of that fact.
