Default Ford Fiesta makes Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award.

The Ford Fiesta was the only "minicar" to earn the Insurance Insitute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award.

One of the many reasons why it's so hard to meet the criteria.

Quote:
To meet the Institute's roof crush safety standard, a vehicle's roof must hold up to four times the weight of the vehicle itself. That's more than twice what's required under current federal auto safety rules.
I tell ya, we do love our Fiesta.

I sat in one at the auto show....wasn't all that impressed with the interior build quality. Nothing compared to my 10' VW Golf.

The Chevy Cruze also seemed better built IMO.

The VW's are always very nice. But once in the Fiesta for longer than 25seconds, it really is very nice. I actually think it does carry a higher build quality than some other american cars, aiming more towards that german level. A VW Golf is simply brilliant no matter what you do, so that is a tuff one.

Looks like American auto companies are clawing and finally gaining traction in the realm of catching up with foreign companies..

Yeah...but I think the Chevy Cruze interior is built better from the American side. I'm not sure if the Fiesta has different trim levels, but the one I sat in was the absolute base model with the stick. At 13K or whatever is was, it was a pretty good deal, though.
