Why the fuck do people name their vehicles?

My truck's name is Fitzgerald and my bike's name is Gretchen... Now shoot me between the eyes before turning the gun on yourself.

I name all my vehicles ... it's a human tendency to assign some sort of gender preference to our prized posessions. It makes obsessing over them seem less .... wierd.
