WTF happened to TWF?
What I mean is, I used to put "twfix" in the browser address line and hit Ctrl-Enter (which for you non-computer-geek types) makes the browser go to "http://www.twfix.com/" and this used to immediately go to "http://www.twowheelfix.com/".
Still with me? Hey, you in the back, wake up! OK, so now it doesn't go from "http://www.twfix.com/" to "http://www.twowheelfix.com/", it goes to some stupid search engine from Comcast (my ISP). So, either the domain name server (DNS for you geeks) forgot who twfix is, or someone forgot to pay the ISP for the domain name. OK, you can go back to sleep now.

I'm kinda sorta following you. Did you install any recent updates for your browser? Firefox once changed my default search engine from google to yahoo and I had to go into the registry or something along those lines to change it back.
If it's that just try googling, because I long since forgotten the process I went though to fix it.

Ah, it's back again. Must have been the DNS.
Sorry for the tempest in the teapot.

Sounds like someone had a temporary DNS hijack.

No hijack - probably just a burp in his ISP's DNS servers or it was temporarily overloaded. When a DNS server can't resolve a host record, it will often display it's default page to the user instead - in this case, as he stated, it was Comcast's search page.
It's likely related to a major outage here in the Atlanta area yesterday - Broadwing had a serious outage for a while that affected many ISPs, including Comcast. Last edited by LeeNetworX; 10-21-2009 at 10:07 AM.. |
