getting a TRO
In your personal experience... does getting a TRO against someone work how they should / keep them away or does it piss them off more? Pro's and con's of a TRO?
I have no experience with TRO's. |

I assume you're talking about a restraining order. It really depends on the person. Someone that's halfway decent and doesn't want to go to jail and have a record...it can help. They now know you mean business.
It also helps for documentation should you ever have to off them. Now the next guy may not give a crap about the record/jail and it won't make much difference to them. Yes there are some that may get pizzed and go off (straw that broke the camel's back) etc. Is it someone pizzed or some creepy person that just won't go away ? Good luck regardless. |

Here you have to actually be in fear of your life. This prevents neighbors and or just pissy people from overusing them
BTW...do I need to plan a trip soon?!? I own land and have access to a backhoe

I hate that I am even having to consider getting one. I just want this person to go away and leave me (and my friends alone). |

If they are harassing you...do it
If they're just being a dick....I wouldn't pursue it. I would just what I could to distance myself from them without resulting to action. However this is all dependant on whether this is male or female. If male, I would pursue it to have a record of this in case something bigger comes about. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this juvenile crap

Restraining orders aren't worth the paper they're written on. Chances are good that if you're afraid enough of someone that you need one, they aren't going to let a court order stop them from getting at you. Law enforcement also drags their feet enforcing them. If they want to do you harm, the damage is going to be done before the cops show up.
Get yourself a gun, get trained how to use it, get a license to carry it if your state allows it and protect yourself when it is necessary. |
