Guess Who Got Her Money Back?!?
Yep that's right, thanks to my quick intervention, she was able to recover her $4,000 from the master scam artist! She is one happy customer, plus she already has another $3,000 saved up to go with it so I'm sure that we'll be bike shopping here soon!!! Anyway, I thought you guys might be interested. FWIW it just goes to show that you should never give up and try to recover your money anyway. If she or I had listened to a lot of our friends/acquaintances, we wouldn't have even tried. Shit everyone she talked to told her she was screwed. Woo hoo! The best part is that she promised to buy me a leather suit if she got the money back!!!!!

How? Was the bank able to recover the funds?

Cliff Notes, My GF sees a bike on Craig's List that she wants. The price was ridiculously low but the guy had a decent reason for selling, Marine shipping out. When she responded to the ad, he sent her an email to check out the "EBay" listing and bid on it if she wanted it. So she clicked the link and low and behold, here comes an EBay auction for the bike with a BIN of $4,000 and several bids. The auction was going to be over in a few hours, so she calls me and asks my advice. I tell her to hold off and we'll go look at it the next day (it's supposedly at the Marine base about 70 miles away). She tells me that the auction will be over by then and she'll lose the opportunity. I'm thinking it's Pay Pal at this point and tell her to go for it if she thinks it's okay. She does the BIN and "wins" the auction. The guy sends her a message asking her to pay by wire transfer because of some story about Pay Pal and because he is shipping out and needs the cash. She gets up the next day and wires the money, I happen to call her that morning as she's leaving the bank for class and she tells me what she's done. I ORDER her to run back to the bank and stop the transaction. The bank then asks for proof that the deal was fraudulent, we provide such proof (the guy tries to sell me the bike as well) and a few weeks later, she gets her money back. All is well, that ends well... |
