I've had it. Security time.
Just too much crap going on around the neighbourhood. Idiot kids getting into everything. Garbage all over the place. The couple of juvenile delinquents who should have been kicked out of the complex, long ago. So far they've known how far they can go with me without me going totally postal, but it's just a matter of time.
So I've got a security DVR system with a couple of cameras on the way. It's not a big budget system but it's better than what's in 90% of the minimarts out there, can be expanded from 2 to 4 cameras, has night illumination, can be viewed remotely via web browser, and will send email alerts if it detects motion. Maybe it'll help me to get some of these assholes evicted. http://www.q-see.com/products/produc...=45&id=6&pid=5

Try sitting in your living room at 9:00pm, watching TV, and have a soccer ball kicked with all the force that a 14 year old can muster wang off your patio door or back windows. Repeatedly. The only real surprise is that I haven't had to pick broken glass off my couch.
This is what the property management company gave us, to eliminate the soccer field.

Less than $170.00, including tax and shipping. That includes two cameras. I have to install my own hard drive though. Fortunately I've got a 1.5TB SATA hard drive sitting here and gathering dust, which is three times the size of the one they normally bundle with the DVR.
The cameras are pretty low resolution, but then again most residential security system setups are.

I've got a 9 camera system set to go in... just waiting for it to cool down outside because it will involve mostly attic work to run the wires.

Gas Man, what system did you end up buying? I have to admit that one reason I bought the Q-See, is that it was the system that caught that Postie tossing the antique clock over the fence

I bought a ZModo system
They aren't the best but they aren't the worst. Web & mobile phone access motion activation (enabled per camera or 24/7 on) night vision (this is known to be limited and greatly helped with other lighting) DVR |
