Any BMW owners?
My wife and I have been looking at used 530 or 540i's over the last few weeks. Probably somewhere around the 00-03 range. I plan on using this car as a daily driver and a tow vehicle for my SV. Anyone have some experience. The 540 would be a better choice for towing ( I think ).

I'm sorry, you're considering a 540 for it's towing ability?

well he is only considering towing a bike... so shit either one would be fine... I've seen a honda accord pull a simple trailer with a sport bike on it.
but what kind of trailer do you have in mind? a simple 500lb trailer will do... but you planning on a fully inclosed 1500lb jobie? |

If I'm not mistaken, this thread belongs in Pauldun's car forum...

No, I want a 540i with the M package cause its a bad motherfucker.
That being said I cant afford a truck and a car. So I need a car that will tow a light (200lb) trailer and my 400lb SV to the track a few times a year. Is there a car forum? |

if it's just a 200lb trailer... your looking at basically 500-600lb trailer with the bike... you should have NO problems towing that with any modern suv. shit even a lot of car's will do that. |

all the truth is... you CAN afford a truck and a car... but you can't afford a BMW "truck" and a car.
get an old solid pos for your truck... and pickup a honda or toyota for the car... probably still under the price of the BMW |

With towing, comes hauling other crap... (gas, tools, etc.) which comes more wear and tear on the car itself. Any vehicle I have ever used for transporting stuff becomes worn... no something I would want in my BMW M-5 series car.
BMW's are fine cars, but I wouldn't consider one for towing.
