Default Taking the plunge to synthetic

My car needs an oil change so I've decided to take the plunge to synthetic. I'm being told that it is better since my car is turbo-charged. I never thought I'd be doing this, but I am.

I suppose the only thing I'll notice is that I won't have to change it so often and that when I do change it, I'll be forking over more money... not really a surprise with this car.

What kind are you putting in it?

I put Mobil 1 in my truck (6 quarts) and I've found, as much as I hate to say it Wal-Mart is the cheapest around.

By a huge margin in my experience. I think they had the gallon jugs on sale recently... I think it was about $16/gallon vs $25/gallon at Advance Auto.

I was going to use Mobil 1 even though I have been faithful to Valvoline for conventional oil. I don't care about the cost difference between the two, it is minor and even if not... I hear Mobil 1 is some of the best.

Damn, I should come to your Wal-Mart, it is like $24.50 at mine for the Mobil 1 syn in gallon jug. I hate to see how much it is at a parts store.

Aw shoot, like I said, I think it was on sale and that was a while ago. To be honest, I change the oil in the bikes but for $15 I let AAA change the oil in the cars.

Make sure they actually change the filter, some won't. I watched them dump the old oil out, lower the car and put fresh oil in. complaining to a manager got me the excuse that the guy was new, a new oil change, and a 50% off, but who knows how often that happens

I just buy it there and get the hell out as fast as I possibly can. I change the oil myself. Only 2 things I buy at Wal Mart for the most part, oil and ammo (mostly shotgun shells)

Air filter, oil filter, oil, and ammo (when they have it). I use Mobil 1 extended life full synth that is supposed to be good for 15k miles. I change it every 10k or so.

I've been doing semi-synthetic for a while. I just couldn't justify the additional cost of full synthetic. However, the semi- is getting up there in price so I may just go full- as well.
