Actually, it looks more like he had insufficient brakes for the boat he was towing. Likely he came up on the light a little too fast, expected to stop like he does when not towing a load, and instead the extra momentum pushed him through the intersection and into the pole.

I believe its cause he's using a half ton truck to do a job meant for a 3/4 tons brakes. the 6 lug pattern is a standard half ton thing now, used to be 5 lug until not long ago, a 2500 uses an 8 lug setup on the wheels, and I'm pretty sure its a 10 lug on the 1 tons.

On the plus side, the beer coolers in the truck bed appear uninjured! the beer is unhurt, which is more important than the failure.

in addition, the tie down straps that hook into the eye bolts on the transom either weren't connnected or were overtightened and snapped from the stress...

Indeed. I know a guy who made a similar mistake with a smaller boat and a Ford Ranger.
Luckily it just pushed him into an empty intersection and didn't decide to mount his truck.
It did, however, scare him enough that he bought a larger truck to pull the boat.

Here's a hint for anybody who ever tows a boat . . . make sure the straps are on before you move it. The only time the straps should be removed is right before you back it into the water. Even if you just have to go "down the street" - put 'em on.

I saw a boat upsidown in the ditch a few years ago that had rolled right off its trailer because the owner was trying to haul it down the highway without the straps on, lol.

Puh-leaze.

It is a single axle trailer!

If that boat is over 5000 lbs, I'd be surprised. You could pull that thing with a Tacoma or Frontier without worry.

I'd be curious to know the story (wet roads, asleep driver, failed brakes, etc.) because there is no reason that truck shouldn't have stopped that boat.
