This was bound to happen.
This is one of music's most common progressions; 2-5-1 [6]...and the melody is diatonic, and very simple. I'm curious as to how this plays out.

I did hear it. The melody uses the same notes. There are countless other songs out there that use the same notes.
I think AC/DC could probably sue themselves and win for plagerism... |

Everything in music has been done. Nothing written is new. I'm interested to see how this turns out.

If you were the judge how would you rule or how would you come to your decision? To me (no musical skill or knowledge) it seems like a clear cut case of plagarism. Just curious to see how the professionals see it. |

I actually like some of Coldplay's music.. but I can't deny that it sounds a hell of a lot like plagiarism. Sure, might be a common progression, but the melody, timing, and notes is too alike to simply be coincidence.
Bands cover and imitate other musicians all the time... Muse did a remake of Feeling Good, for example, and I liked it. Some are winners, some are not... why don't bands just call it what it is rather than trying to pass it off as their own?
