I get Berkebile Gum Cutter at my local Western Auto, that stuff works magic on varnish/mung in carbs. Literally melts it away.

Disassemble the carb and spray away ( wear safety glasses as it really burns )

It may take repeated soakings to work thru the small passages but I have had good luck with it.

q-tips work well when you combine them with solvents, that or the more expensive wire brushes.

Thanks..I've been using Yamaha carb cleaner, but I've had mixed results with it; I will definately give this stuff a go, as I have about 4 new(er) bikes that need a good going over....
