Only problem I see now is finding something on the list I want...4x4 with any power is about impossible.

I hate to get something slower than the Jeep...it will move out pretty well for what it is.

Not quite. It is a tiered system and the amount of the government credit depends on MPG improvement.

z06boy: In order to get any money at all you need to improve your fuel economy by a certain amount.

If you get a passenger car and it improves your economy by 4mpg or more (20mpg) you get $3500. If you get 10mpg better or more (26mpg) you get the full $4500.

If you get a truck it gets more complex. I would suggest looking at the cars.gov faq to try and figure it out.

Everything I've read says to get $3500 you need to improve your combined mpg by at least 10. to get $4500 you need to improve it by at least 15 mpg.

So this pretty much means any pickup or SUV is out, as well as any performance orientated vehicles.

you have to be looking at little econo boxes for this to fly. and who the hell would give up a 4x4 pickup/suv for one of those?

Look at the cars.gov, the official government website created to get information out about the program. If you are trading in for a category 1 truck you only need to improve by 2mpg for $3500 and 5mpg for $4500. It also has to get better than 18mpg.

you can't use this program if you just want to upgrade to a newer one of what you are driving.

Not unless the combined mileage has improved significantly from old model to new.
