7.3s are die hard reliable trucks if you pick one up that was well maintained. Their main weakness is the transmission.

6.0s will frequently be found for less than the 7.3 because of their reliability issues. They are much faster/powerful trucks but you won't get much for mileage and reliability without a couple mods. But on the other hand they have great transmissions.

I got this for 8,500 with a brand new transmission in it. Its been a great truck and really well maintained it's entire life. It took me about 3 months to find but I have no regrets.

How tough are they you ask? Well I put mine to the test this summer and popped the engine in a failed river crossing. When I pulled the engine out with 270,000 miles on it, she still had honing marks on the cylinder walls and very little blow by before she popped.

If you are interested in the story of my truck check out this link. Feel free to check out my pictures of my drive from Atlanta to Alaska, and then the shit I went through after I got to Alaska. I have beaten this truck to death and its a fucking tough bitch. I have 0 regrets.

I just got my 2004 F250. I'm VERY happy with mine. Bought it off Craigslist from a broker in San Antonio.

FYI - helpful videos:

Dude that was awesome, thanks for sharing. I was surprised to see how many cool people you've met up in Alaska and how helpful they were with the engine swap.

Glad I could help. I too was blown away by the help I got after putting myself through such a predicament. Its enough to have me staying here for a little while until I figure out what I want to do.

You should be able to get a great deal on a big truck these days my friend! I've seen 1/2 tons, only a few years old going for dirt cheap around here with the economy and the price of gas...
