My grandpa raised me and was very much like a father for me, so when he died it was rough, I was 16 at the time. He and my grandmother were married for 51 years, and she had never lived alone since she went straight from her parent's house to his house. (She was 15 or 16 when they married).

Anyway, she recovered very nicely, and is doing well over 10 years later. She's actually about to go on an Alaskan cruise, which is something else for a woman who hasn't left North Texas in a couple of decades! She hangs out with friends, does church and fire department events...and generally stays pretty busy.

Even old people can adapt pretty well!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Like others have said, remember the good times and the love you had for him. I lost both mine as a teenager and even to this day I choke up when I think about them, but I'm forever grateful I had the chance to know them. We're here if you need us.

It's funny man, I woke up this morning and was thinking about some of the funny stuff my grandma used to say/do... Just remember those things - all the stuff you sorta took for granted... that's the stuff that means the most...

That sucks. I had all four around until I hit my mid 20s then three out of the four were gone in about 3 years. Your grandma will probably figure it out. Women typically do much better than men after losing a spouse, and that was how it worked with my grandparents.

Sorry for your loss. Enjoy the good memories you have of him.

Its tough... I know.....reading this makes me remember when i lost my Grandad. He was one of the coolest I know...

Hehe, I still remember one of his favorite sayings he used to tell me. "Don't let that battleship mouth of yours get you into a fight your rowboat ass can't win." This said when me and my uncle, who is three yrs older and at the time prolly 120#'s heavier, and I got into a pissin match that about ended in punches thrown.

I feel your pain. Just know we are all here for ya.

God Speed to your Grandad
