Default new cop trick?

learned a new (new to me anyways)trick being used by cops yesterday. was riding to an event in Leesburg FL. came upon a scooter. the larger 650cc style. guy on it had all the gear. amer flag helmet, orange vest, "shoes" (should have noticed the shoes).
anyway, I didn't pay him much attention. we came to a stop light, as we left said light we changed lanes and went away from scooter boy. pretty soon he comes buzzing up, switches lanes to get in front of us, then it is riding through town. he is moving pretty good. I have to admit I thought, eh he's in front and hopefully knows the area, so we followed. (ah first mistake grasshopper, second counting those shoes)
soon the scooter has pulled away from us, i have a limit now days as to how fast I'll go and he was over it. ah there he is again, dropped back a little I guess so we could ride. I go to switch lanes to get behind him and as I look back, whoops, where did those red lights come from. I seldom even look for cops now days because I seldom speed. pull back to the right lane as I figure the cop is going to tag mr scooter. oh no, he comes behind me. scooter then whips a u-turn and leaves.
as john law begins to talk to me he says "oh your wife left you behind". g/f was riding with me on her bike. (mistake #3, didn't notice he said nothing about the flying scooter). she knows never to give them a free double ticket. yes they can call ahead and whatever else but never pull over together. I am not married so I say so.
we talk, he ends up being pretty cool and lets me go.
as I'm returning to the camper I realize the scooter is a cop, he rides with bikes and maybe encourages a little faster ride then calls a light up car. he returned to his original post after the u turn to fish for more.
as I was thinking about his gear the shoes kept sticking out until I realized they were the tactile boots of cops. yes many guys wear them on bikes but how many on scooters?
when johnny was talking to me he never mentioned the scooter at all only the g/f and myself. even though the scooter was in the lead.
just a warning to watch for sneaky tactics.
not making excuses for speeding. in fact that is probably why I got a warning. when he asked why we were speeding. I told him I was following the scooter but that doesn't make a difference if I am here and he's not.
I have to admit he did smile a little when he asked me how it was going. my response was a std "pretty good until I seen you" LOL

I've seen unmarked cars pull the jack rabbit routine before, up here, but never an unmarked motorcycle or scooter. Occasionally unmarked cars will also practice 'pushing' in which they get right up on your bumper in order to make you go faster, and then pull you over when you do.

They usually get a nice brake check.

It gets kind of interesting up here. Following unduly closely can be considered racing, under our racing and stunting law. Brake checking someone definitely falls under racing and stunting.

"Oops, thought I saw a deer officer..."

And incidentally, the more someone tailgates me, the more I stick to the speed limit just to piss 'em off. I've also been known to hit the windshield washers in the car and spray said tailgater

A little easier to pull off in your neck of the woods than on a Toronto highway on-ramp

or you could just keep slowing down and force the "tailgater" to pass you...that usually pisses them off quick.
