I currently own my 5th xbox after four sessions of the RROD.

When you get to your 5th xbox, they assign you a special unit.

The xbox they send you sounds different and has a different reader drive unit.

My XBOX is one high powered mofo now!

It cost $35 to go to small c laims court, and all you really need to do is make it not worth their time to show up, sue for $600, It would cost them that much just for a lawyer. The only cost to you would be the filing cost, plus a half a day of missed work.

Just show up with proof that you had the thing returned more than once, and it keeps being defective, along with any other documents, news articles, etc that you can get.

On the PS3 remark, mine was acting a little funny until I downloaded the latest update and now it's fine, you might want to do a search. I'm thinking of sending mine in anyway to have it looked at while I'm still under warranty and I'm also gonna buy a dedicated blue ray player. I'm starting to think that it's a bad idea to use my PS3 to watch movies.

I've been thinking about doing the same. Dave mentioned it might be a HD thing, and I think he's probably right since it sounds like it's coming from around the hard drive area. If it doesnt clear up by the end of the warranty, it's going in to Sony for a repair, and if they don't fix it, I'll swap out the hard drive myself with something a lot larger.

Sony actually shows you how to do that in a tutorial video. My other concern is that I was using it quite a bit to surf while my laptop was being repaired and I'm a bit concerned over the OS's ability to fend off viruses...

tigger, is yours directly connected to the internet (nat 1) or is it on a nat 2 (dmz) or nat 3 connection? sony is usually pretty hardcore about their firmware. i wouldnt nessesarily worry about it considering that the recommended connection is a nat 2 in the dmz

oh yeah, got a link for that video? im getting close to capacity on my 60 gig

Yeah man, throw a link our way. I was wary of it because I thought it was a huge no-no that would void the warranty and be a bitch to do, but if there's a tutorial on it, I may just go ahead and replace it anyway for shits and giggles.

Ok, so I'm got off my lazy ass and did a google search.

Instructions on swapping out the hard drive. Not a Sony link, but holy fucking shit does that look easy. I was thinking I'd have to pop open the case and do all sorts of dumb shit. This is definitely within the realm of my abilities and anyone elses.

Make sure that your problem isn't with the power supply. If they power supply is yellow during the red rings then it is faulty, not the console. I just had that happen to me on a repaired console. It's still a 50 dollar repair, but at least it's a bit cheaper.
